3 Glasses That We Cannot Keep In Stock!

There are some glasses are so popular they are tough to keep in stock...and there are others that are "sleeper" hits, taking us by surprise with their popularity. Last year we had a number of very popular glasses and a couple "sleepers". The 3 glasses below fit into one (or both) of those categories. We did not think that we would have them in stock again.

To our surprise we have been able to procure a small shipment of each and they are now in stock on Lolita Wine

The Sugar Skulls Wine Glass has been so popular the manufacturer struggles to keep up with the demand. Perfect for Halloween and Dia Los Muertos, this glass features a "blinged out" male skull on one the front side with the matching female skull on the back. Coupled with the current "skull craze" trend, these glasses just flew off our shelves last holiday season.

The Horn of Plenty Wine Glass is super popular with those looking for unique Thanksgiving table glasses. We sold out very early in the Fall season and did not think we would see this glass again. With it's traditional harvest scene it is perfect for any Autumn table and will go fast again this year.

Finally, the Holiday Beauty Wine Glass is unique with it's dramatic design. I think the fact that this glass is not a "traditional" Christmas design made it even more popular during the late part of last year,. It gleams and sparkles with traditional holiday colors, making it ideal for the entire Winter season. There they are...the surprise "hits" of the 2015 holiday season, back in stock in very limited quantities. Did you miss them last year? Now is the time to snap them up for this year's holiday celebrations!

Celebrate National Cognac Day on June 4

National Cognac Day - June 4 National Cognac Day is celebrated every year on June 4. Nobody seems to know when this day of recognition started, or by whom, but it is a marvelous reason to celebrate this exceptional spirit.

What is Cognac anyway?

Named after the town of Cognac in France, Cognac is a variety of brandy. It is produced in the wine-growing region surrounding the town from which it takes its name. To have the name "Cognac" it must be distilled from specific varietals of grapes, grown in the region, double-distilled in copper pot-stills, and aged in French Oak for a minimum of 2 years, and often much longer. Cognac was as popular through the end of the 1800's as vodka or gin is today! In fact, cognac was the original bar staple and it was hard for cognac producers to keep up with the demand.  If you look in older cocktail books, the number of brandy drinks equal or exceed the number of gin or vodka drinks. Cognac fell out of favor in the US during the mid 20th century, possibly because it was viewed as a "luxury" spirit and it was difficult to obtain during the World War eras. There are more than 200 cognac producers, however, more than 90% for the US market comes from only four producers: Courvoisier, Hennessy, Martell, and Rémy Martin

Understanding a Cognac bottle label...

  • V.S. ("very special") or ✯✯✯ (three stars) designates a blend in which the youngest brandy has been stored for at least two years in a cask.
  • V.S.O.P. ("very superior old pale") or "Reserve" designates a blend in which the youngest brandy is stored for at least four years in a cask.
  • XO ("extra old") or "Napoléon" designates a blend in which the youngest brandy is stored for at least six years. In 2016, the minimum storage age of the youngest brandy used in an XO blend will be set to ten years.

How to Drink Cognac...

  • The traditional way to drink a fine (V.S.O.P. or XO) Cognac is "neat" in a brandy snifter slightly warmed over a flame.
  • Any cocktail recipe that calls for Brandy as a major ingredient will be taken to a whole new level when you substitute Cognac. (Don't waste the XO Cognac on a mixed drink, however. XO is definitely a sipping spirit!)
  • Substitute Cognac for Whiskey in your favorite Whiskey based cocktail. You will be surprised how well it works and how the drink is transformed into a new taste sensation.

Why You Should Register on a Store's Website

Register Image... Have you ever shopped online and reached the point during the purchasing process that you are asked if you want to "register" for an account? A customer registration option is no longer new in the e-commerce world, but a lot of customers are still unsure about using this store feature. What does it mean exactly?...and why would I want to register? Is the information I enter during registration going to be safe, secure and kept private?...especially if I opt to add a credit card number to keep on file??? Good questions! Let me address the security concerns first...

Fraud and Identity Theft...

As a general rule whenever shopping online, make sure that the store processes information and transactions in a secured and encrypted manner. All stores that uses encryption technology should display some sort of indicator on their site. At Lolita Wine, we display the secure transaction button on our shopping cart page (below) Encryption Seal Stores that process credit cards as an accepted form of payment should also be required to go through an audit procedure once a year to certify that they are in compliance with all credit card security rules and privacy protection laws. At Lolita Wine we display our compliance badge in the footer of all of our web pages.  It includes a clickable link to the 3rd party auditors that perform the audit for our credit card processor and gives up to date information on security compliance for our store. Credit Card compliance badge If you shop on a site that does not display such badges, it does not necessarily mean that they are not operating in a secured environment, but if they are they SHOULD display the proof! I would call the merchant to make sure. Better safe than sorry! Okay...that settled, if you know that the site is secured and uses encryption, it is safe to put your personal information, including your credit card number in a registered account without worrying that it could be "stolen" or used fraudulently.

Benefits to Registering?

  1. Super easy to keep track of your orders. (Comes in very handy when you are trying to remember what glass you sent Cousin Sue on her last birthday!)
  2. Simple log in to check the status of your order and track the package once shipped.
  3. Automatically fills in your billing and shipping information to save you time during that next order! (This can be changed at either the account level or for each order if necessary!)
  4. As a registered customer, many sites give you extra perks! (We are working on a fabulous rewards program for Lolita Wine which will roll out soon. Stay Tuned!)
  5. Many sites let you register using your existing online logins. We offer Facebook, Google, Yahoo and AOL as existing user ID sign-in options. Very handy not having to remember yet another log-in!
Bottom line... does not hurt to register for an account with a reputable online merchant and may actually work to your benefit!  Give it a try...

Grapefruit Margarita
Recipe Type: Cocktail
Cuisine: Cocktail

Prep time:
Total time:
This Grapefruit Margarita recipe is delicious and oh-so-refreshing when made with fresh grapefruit juice.
  • 2 ounces freshly-squeezed grapefruit juice
  • 1 1/2 ounces tequila, silver or reposado
  • 3/4 ounce Cointreau (or any orange liqueur)
  • 3/4 ounce freshly-squeezed lime juice
  • agave nectar for sweetening, to taste
  • ice
  • optional: lime wedge and salt for rimming the glass
  1. If you would like salt-rimmed glasses, begin by running a lime wedge (the juicy part) around the top rim of a glass. Fill a shallow bowl with salt, and dip the rim in the salt until it is covered with your desired amount of salt. Set aside.
  2. Add grapefruit juice, tequila, lime juice and Cointreau to a cocktail shaker, and shake or stir until combined. Taste, and if you would like it to be sweeter (most people do!), stir in a half teaspoon of agave, and then repeat as needed until the mix reaches your desired level of sweetness.
  3. Fill glass with ice. Pour in the margarita mixture over the rocks. Serve immediately, garnished with an extra lime or grapefruit wedge if desired.

Teacher's Time Out Wine Glass - Perfect for National Teachers Day!

Did you know that National Teachers Appreciation Day is on May 3? Personally, I don't think teachers get the recognition they deserve. The impact a great teacher has on a student's life is immeasurable.  I can recall my "favorite" teachers throughout school. The list is different now that I am a "grown up"...I liked the "nice" teachers when I was a kid (of course!) Now I realize how valuable the "tough" teachers were to my educational and ethical growth. With budget cuts, changing societal norms, overcrowded classrooms and legislation, teaching must be increasingly challenging as each year passes. Time to give credit to those who work with our kids day in and day out...and NOT just on one day a year! The Teacher's Time Out Wine Glass by Lolita® was created in honor of all our teachers. Whimsical teacher themed images and sayings are painted on this fun glass. Not just for wine drinking teachers, this cheery glass can be used for any favorite beverage...
